Sometimes I make things for the shop. Sometimes I make something simply because an idea gets into my head and refuses to leave me alone.
And sometimes I make something as a gift.

This time I made a necklace for my son’s girlfriend for her birthday. Or rather, I sometimes call her my daughter-in-law, even though she isn’t officially one yet. “Girlfriend” somehow sounds a bit silly to me anyway, so let’s call her his sweetheart. 😄
I crocheted the necklace from natural white cotton yarn and assembled it from separate flower motifs. Each flower got a pearl in the centre, and I added more pearls to the dangling decorations.
I didn’t want an ordinary ribbon or chain around the back of the neck. So I used pearl beads there as well, with a small screw clasp to fasten the necklace.
When it was finished and lying on the table, it looked rather large.
But that’s often the way with things like this. They look one way on the table and completely different when someone actually wears them. Once it was around the neck, everything seemed to fall into place. The flowers form a V-shape, the strands of pearls move with the necklace, and the bottom motif hangs a little lower.
And that was when I looked at it and thought, yes, this is exactly how I imagined it.
The funny thing is that after making those V-neck collars, I had only just written about spotting something on Pinterest that was somewhere between a collar, a decorative front piece and a piece of jewellery.
Well.

That didn’t take long. 😄
This one isn’t a collar anymore.
This is definitely a necklace.
And even worse, now that one is finished, my brain has naturally started whispering: but what if you made another one with different flowers…
No.
Not now.
At least not today. 😏
Bim and Maimu

Maimu looked at the necklace.
“It’s quite festive,” she said.
Bim looked too.
At the pearls.
At the flowers.
And then at me.
“What?” I asked.
Bim didn’t answer.
Maimu looked at him.
“He’s probably wondering how many more pearls you’re planning to put on the next one.”
I looked at the necklace.
“Enough.”
Bim closed his eyes.
Maimu nodded.
“That’s what I thought.”
