Actually I had already made one of these some time ago and sent it to Israel. So I made another. Its diameter is 98 cm. I could have stretched it beyond 100 cm, but I did not push it. I have nowhere to stretch things properly. I blocked it on my own table, measuring separately from the centre to the edge of every arch and leaving it to dry. Horribly tedious, but who said it had to be easy and fun? This doily is made from cotton yarn with a metallic addition. The main yarn is cotton with metallic thread wound around it, so it is quite soft rather than rough and stiff. The yarn is light grey.
Now I plan to make the same thing smaller and without the metallic thread. We shall see how I get on.
And I did make a smaller one, 75 cm in diameter. Made by trial and error, with surprisingly little unravelling. At this size I gave it a little starch.
