Crocheted Trainer Slippers

For the soles I bought faux leather and used a shop-bought boot insole as the template. First I cut out the soles and sew around the edge with buttonhole stitch. I try to keep the spacing very even, but my eyesight is not brilliant, so… I leave the soft furry side on the inside and the leather side outside.

Once the edges were finished with buttonhole stitch, I started crocheting. I worked the first row in double crochet and the next two rows in treble crochet.

Then I took red yarn and started crocheting the sides in the same way. I decreased at the beginning and end of every row and also worked two stitches together at the heel. Whether that was necessary or not, I wanted the slipper to follow the shape of the foot. Once it was high enough, I finished the edge with crab stitch, which is double crochet worked from left to right.

Then I crocheted the tongue and sewed it to the slipper. For the tongue I measured the length over the top of the foot, crocheted a chain and worked back and forth until it was wide enough. The upper part of the tongue was still needed, and I made that in a different colour. The last row of the tongue was also finished in crab stitch.

Finally I crocheted a lace, threaded it through the slipper and it was done.
