Knitting the Hedgehog, Corn Cob Stitch – A Good Child Has Many Names

I’m writing this down while it is still fresh because I forget things terribly quickly. I really needed this pattern and the instructions were in Russian. I asked a Russian woman to translate them, but she only gasped and said she could not translate such specialised text into Estonian. So I copied bits from the YouTube tutorial and eventually reached the right place. But videos are there today and who knows about tomorrow, so to be safe I wrote it all down and added pictures, so at least I myself can understand what I wrote 🙂

And now, years later, I’ve made my own video showing how it’s done. You can watch it at the end of this post.

I started with 26 stitches. I knitted the first row in 1×1 rib.

Row 2 – edge stitch, knit, yarn in front, slip the purl stitch without knitting (this creates a yarn over across the slipped purl stitch), knit…

Row 3 – edge stitch, yarn in front, slip the previously slipped stitch together with its yarn over purlwise without knitting (another yarn over forms over them), knit…

Row 4 – edge stitch, knit, purl 3 stitches together (2 yarn overs and one slipped stitch), knit…

Row 5 – edge stitch, knit, purl, knit…
