Finding all sorts of ideas and exciting tutorials still gets me ridiculously excited. And these butterflies arrived at exactly the right time. I had just been wondering what final little keepsake I could make for my colleagues. My plan had been to make each of them a silk handkerchief with a crocheted lace edge, so that whenever they remembered me they would at least have something to blow their nose on or wipe an eye with. It seemed like an amusing idea and not terribly difficult or time-consuming, but then another thought occurred to me… I’ll make every colleague a butterfly. Completely pointless, impractical and unnecessary, which in the end was rather how I turned out to be for the company too.

Making the butterfly could hardly be simpler…you can combine different colours. On some butterflies I made the final row like this, and on others I followed this chart for the last row.

I starched the finished butterflies and pinned the wings into shape because otherwise they refused to stay where they belonged.
