Buttons Made from Yarn

I have quite a serious little obsession: if something is hand-knitted or crocheted, the buttons have to be handmade too. I hate fiddling about making buttons and, whenever possible, make things that do not need them, but… this time I had to. I took white yarn and wrapped it ten times around an ordinary pencil, each new loop on top of the previous one. Then I started sewing around it with buttonhole stitch.

Pool ringi tehtud
Half the circle done
Keeruga nööpaugupiste, äär jääb tugevam ja ilusam
Twisted buttonhole stitch gives a firmer, neater edge
Esimene ring tehtud, teen alati kaks ringi. Nii peidab esimese ringi apsakad, nööp jääb tugevam ja ka ilusam
The first round is finished. I always do two rounds. It hides any mishaps in the first round and makes the button stronger and prettier.
Teise reaga ka üle tehtud. Jääb selline ilusam ka.
The second round is finished too. It looks much neater like this.
Then I take the yarn to the underside of the button
and make a shank
Sanga keerutan lõngaga üle, peidan lõngaotsa ära.
I wrap the shank with yarn and hide the end.

And that is the finished little button
