Sometimes you do not need to buy a new garment to freshen up your wardrobe. A few small details can give something you already own an entirely new look.
A customer brought this jacket to me because she wanted to update it a little. She asked me to add crocheted lace to the collar and to use some small crocheted flowers she already had. The idea was simple: give the jacket a little more character while keeping its original style.
I crocheted a delicate lace edging around the collar so that it peeks out subtly from underneath. I also added a small crocheted flower at one corner of the collar, tying that detail in with the other decorations and giving the jacket a little accent.
I placed the crocheted flowers in two areas:
• a small arrangement beside the pocket
• a diagonal row of flowers along the sleeve
This placement creates balance. The little cluster by the pocket adds a small accent, while the row of flowers running along the sleeve brings movement and an eye-catching detail to the jacket.
I attached every flower by hand so that they would stay secure while sitting naturally on the fabric. The different shades of blue give the jacket depth and make the details more interesting.
This project is a good example of how small handmade details can completely transform a garment you already own. Sometimes all it takes is a strip of lace or a few small decorations to give clothing a new life.
And most importantly, the customer was very happy with the result.
