I nearly thought myself stupid trying to work out what this was and how to crochet it. I had a vague idea, and when more knowledgeable people confirmed that I had understood it more or less correctly, it felt rather good. Imagine that, I do not even know its proper name.
It is actually simple to crochet: it is a treble crochet worked around the post of the stitch in the row below. It can be worked from the front or from the back. The photograph here shows it from the front. Crocheting this way creates a raised texture 🙂
