The shop has a new look and is open again 🎉
Something happened here for a while that polite people call a design update and developers simply call survival training.
The shop now has a new look: cleaner, calmer and, for the most part, more logical to use. The menus have been sorted out, the pages have more room to breathe, and the whole contraption works on a computer the way a normal online shop is supposed to.
On mobile… let’s just say it is still receiving active parental guidance.
So what changed?
• a new, simpler shop design
• clearer navigation
• faster loading
• less visual clutter
• and a few things that decided to enjoy the development process for a little longer
There was one goal: to make the shop easy to be in. Not just to look at, but actually to use.
Behind the scenes of development (or how to put your nerves to the test)
Every shop update looks lovely from the outside. From the inside, it is more like a detective story.
For example, I learnt once again that:
• one missing bracket can break an entire page,
• the same thing can work on one page and refuse to exist on another,
• a browser never forgives,
• and JavaScript has very personal opinions about timing.
At the moment everything in the shop works… almost.
The one thing that has decided to lead an independent life is the mini-cart, which sometimes simply refuses to appear in the category view. On a product page it is there, alive and well. On a category page, however, it behaves like a cat that only comes when it feels like it.
The mobile view is also still being fine-tuned, because in real life no design does exactly what you politely ask it to do on the first attempt.
That work continues. (And yes, in the world of development that usually means the problem solves itself five minutes after you’ve decided to give up.)
What happens next?
The shop is open again and orders are moving. If you notice anything odd or a button decides to take a rest, please let me know. Real people are building this shop, and real people fix it too.
Thank you for being here. 💛
And if the mini-cart finally appears on the category page, it will probably deserve a celebration of its own.
