I discovered this crochet technique and fell in love with it at once. I decided to make a shawl. I used lace yarn, the kind I normally knit shawls with, or Haapsalu-style shawls. I cannot say the ones I make are true Haapsalu shawls, but they are similar: thin, with a sewn-on lace edging, and fine enough to be pulled through a woman\u2019s ring. This time, though, I crocheted. I chose a hook that was too large and pulled the loops too long. It simply did not work. It stretched too much and lost the distinctive look of Solomon\u2019s knot. I unravelled it. I took a smaller crochet hook and made the loops shorter. I made a triangular shawl. It took two balls of yarn, or 50 g. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result was what I wanted. Although I liked it better before washing. After washing, I dried it on a frame and stretched it only enough to give it shape. Solomon\u2019s knot does not like being stretched; it loses its character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
